Dermal fillers are one of the most popular aesthetic treatments available today. They work to restore lost volume, smooth lines and perfectly define facial features.
Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the skin, eyes and joints, and is responsible for keeping your complexion hydrated and supple. Over time, the body naturally breaks down hyaluronic acid, which can cause signs of ageing or volume loss. Dermal fillers work to replenish this hyaluronic acid and naturally improve the skin’s appearance.
Dermal fillers can be used to treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines and sleep and smokers’ lines. As well as fighting these common ageing concerns, dermal fillers are used for both lip and cheek augmentations. This can enhance the appearance of the lips, or cheeks by increasing the volume and defining the shape.
Before treatment, Laura will conduct a thorough medical consultation. During this appointment, the treatment process will be explained in full, as well as the kind of results you can expect. The process for dermal fillers varies depending on the area being treated but usually takes between 30 and 40 minutes.
For most patients, we will use a local anaesthetic cream to numb the area and keep discomfort to a minimum. Either a needle or cannula will be used to carefully administer the product under the skin. The treatment site will then be gently massaged to eliminate any lumps or bumps and ensure the product is integrated with the skin tissue.
After dermal filler treatment, you can get back to your daily routine immediately. Mild bruising or swelling can occur, so we recommend planning treatment four weeks ahead of any special occasions.
After treatment, avoid drinking alcohol, heavy exercise or flying for at least 12 hours. Dermal fillers typically last between six to 18 months depending on the area being treated.
